Project Overview:
In the latter part of 2009, Armstrong York carried out an Asbestos Management survey at Stoke Mandeville Hospital on behalf of our client, Buckinghamshire NHS Trust who are responsible for three hospital sites including, Wycombe Hospital and Amersham Hospital. We also carried out a management survey of Stoke Mandeville Hospital which took six weeks to survey with a team of two surveyors. We also carried out surveys to other buildings located throughout the three sites and have subsequently quoted for further works for our client Buckinghamshire NHS Trust. The Stoke Mandeville Hospital survey was completed on time and within budget. In 2008, Armstrong York completed projects on behalf of St Guys and St Thomas Hospitals. The works included Asbestos Surveys, airborne fibre monitoring and bulk sample analysis. This project, like all of the schemes undertaken within a live hospital environment was extremely complex and required careful planning and organisational skills from our experienced technical team. Armstrong York was appointed in April 2007 by Great Ormond Street Hospital on an asbestos enabling project. The contract was valued at £150,000.00 and included Asbestos Surveys, airborne fibre monitoring and bulk sample analysis. We are currently providing Asbestos Air Monitoring & Clearance Testing at Northwick Park & St. Mark’s Hospitals under the North West London Hospitals Trust covering six independent asbestos projects within four buildings.
Our Approach:
In order for the project to be a success, various aspects needed to be taken into consideration in order to achieve a high standard of finish whilst taking into account the needs of staff, patients and the general public. In all of the above captioned projects the most important request was that the hospitals remained open and active throughout the construction process, extra care was needed in regards to noise and control throughout the duration of the schemes. Armstrong York has completed works in multiple phases to allow the hospitals to remain active throughout the works. Our experienced healthcare team, who all have a vast amount of knowledge in working in and around live hospital environments, worked in partnership with the trust, adopting a non-confrontational approach to deliver this project not only to the specification but on time and to budget.
